Welcome to Herbal Medicine. My name is Dan Wheals. Since 2007, I have treated people with plant based herbal medicines. Please read about what I do and contact me for a free chat to discuss if seeing a herbalist is right for you. We'll take it from there.

Please note that herbal medicine can be a medium term therapy, talk to me about what you can afford as it is important that you have medicines for at least 3 months in most cases. I generally reduce consultations after a while so you just have medicines to pay for with occasional check ins.

I live on the Essex/ Suffolk Boarder but we can discuss use of digital communication after a face to face initial consultation.

What to expect from a herbalism consultation.

When you see me in a consultation I fit your treatment and healthcare to your needs. The first visit usually lasts an hour. An in-depth discussion about you, your health issues and everything affecting them, past and present.  I call this your health story and though you remain clothed, there may be some physical examinations needed. As every patient is unique, a prescription will be created specifically for you which could include teas, tinctures, creams and supplements. This will be sent to you  or pick up / drop off arranged.

I can take payments by cash but I prefer bank transfer.  Please discuss if herbal medicine is right for you first (free chat).  I find that some patients want certainty so I created a fixed fee for the initial 1 hour consultation, whatever medicines are needed and the first follow up half hour if you prefer.

Follow up consultations are shorter (30 mins) and are typically 2-4 weeks apart. These appointments allow for any necessary adjustments to your prescription to ensure it goes on being effective for you. Repeat prescriptions can be ordered via phone or email.

Garden Therapy is a new offering since I returned inspired from a job in Australia as a garden therapist. Working in the Royal Children's Hospital of Melbourne showed me how nature and garden plants can transform patients. I have since started helping older gardeners who need help in their gardens. There are so many lonely gardeners unable to tend their lifetime's work. So old or young, mental or physical, talk to me about Garden Therapy in your garden, in mine or in a place of wild nature. This is not an official therapy get but we are working with others to promote it as such. Normally I do a two hour minimum at an hourly rate of £25/ hour applies which may vary due to travel or items to be purchased for garden.

What is Herbal Medicine?

Used appropriately, plants are powerful medicines capable of addressing the perceived causes of illness and supporting the maintenance, restoration or management of health.

In the developed world people are living longer, but increasingly we are also living with long-term health problems. We face healthcare challenges relating to our daily life such as stress, dietary choices, and sedentary lifestyles. Herbal medicine can bring us back to health in a gentle and well tolerated way that provides long-term relief from both physical and mental disorders. Not all of our health problems are chronic; herbal medicine can also help with short-lived and self limiting illnesses and infections.

Is Herbal Medicine right for you?

Herbal Medicine is the oldest and still most widely used system of medicine in the world today. Treatment is centred on the care of each patient as an individual. The medicines are made exclusively from plants.

Medicines can be posted. I am based between Colchester Essex and Ipswich Suffolk in East Anglia, England.

Most people like to phone/ email me first to explain their situation.

Philosophy of Practice

Medical herbalists take a holistic view of health. Our aim is to prevent disease and restore health. Patients are seen as a person, not labelled as a disease and I try to treat the underlying cause of your health problems. By acknowledging the body's innate ability to correct imbalances and heal itself; I aim to assist this by prescribing and dispensing plant medicines in a safe and effective manner together with advice to help you restore and maintain better health.
